Masturbation in men: how often jerking off is healthy?

There are a number of myths surrounding male masturbation: jerking off makes you blind, impotent or leads to skin problems – these are just a few well-known untruths on this subject.

The fact that this is bullshit and masturbation brings almost only advantages for men has now even been scientifically confirmed.

It is therefore not surprising that almost every man jerks off regularly. Nevertheless, many of them are not sure whether and how often solo sex is good for them. The following facts and information clarify.

Better than masturbating: Finding real sex dates with women

Jerking off is fun and healthy

Looking at the advantages and disadvantages when it comes to masturbating, it’s easy to say that for men, there are many good reasons why they should masturbate regularly.

First and foremost, of course, because it is great fun. During orgasm, the hormones endorphin and oxytocin are released. This provides feelings of happiness and balance.

Masturbation is healthy in many ways. Men reduce stress when masturbating and strengthen their cardiovascular system as well as their immune system.

In addition, masturbation boosts the production of testosterone – the sex hormone keeps you fit and young. In connection with strength training, a plus in testosterone leads to increased muscle building.

Prostate benefits from male masturbation

Masturbating prevents prostate cancerMasturbating is also healthy for the prostate. Frequent ejaculation improves the blood supply to the gonad. This makes it harder for infections to take hold.

The discomfort of chronic, non-bacterial prostate inflammation can be relieved by frequent hand touching. To achieve better blood flow to the gland, you don’t have to jerk off every day – but 2 times a week should be enough for ejaculation to have healthy effects.

The results of a long-term study conducted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston are also interesting. It found that men who masturbate frequently have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer than those who hold back on masturbation. The study refers to men and means with frequent ejaculation at least 21 times per month.

Lose weight by masturbating

Calorie consumption during masturbation is another positive side effect. On average, 150 calories are burned per handjob.

If you consider that you have to walk almost two kilometers to burn 150 kcal, this number is considerable. While masturbation is far from replacing exercise, it definitely burns fat.

Thus, solo sex supports diets and weight loss goals of all kinds. However, a certain continuity is also required here – those who jerk off only once a month will hardly consume any noticeable calories through it.

Sleep better after masturbation

If you can’t fall asleep well in the evening, you may be able to help yourself with a very simple remedy: Jerking off.

Because masturbation even has an effect on sleep. The Frankfurt doctor Haydar Karatepe says: “You feel relaxed and often better afterwards.

So when you go to bed, simply include a hand relaxation so that you can fall asleep easily afterwards.

Masturbating for a fulfilling sex life

Again and again we hear: If a man masturbates a lot, then the sex life with his partner suffers. Of course, if you’ve already jerked off several times before sex, you won’t be able to get much “performance” from your sweetheart in bed.

But if you make sure that you haven’t used up all your powder before sex, you shouldn’t have any problems. On the contrary – regular masturbation can help men have better sex.

For one thing, because during solo sex, one engages with one’s own body without stress and pressure to perform. This allows you to discover and reflect on your personal desires and fantasies in terms of eroticism in peace. During sex with your partner, your own preferences can then be better communicated, because you know exactly what you want.

In addition, regular masturbation promotes a man’s potency. Through masturbation, a man can improve or maintain the quality of his sperm. Sperm can go bad after only 3 days. Frequent masturbation regularly empties the epididymis, making room for new material.

By the way, a popular exercise for more stamina and stability of the penis during sex is consciously delaying orgasm while masturbating. The man should masturbate until just before ejaculation. Then pause briefly and jerk off again – until it almost comes to orgasm again and just before it is broken off again. The whole thing should be repeated about 4 times, in the last round may then be squirted. If you do this training regularly, you can look forward to longer stamina during sex in the long run.

Penile fracture and NoFap – does masturbation bring disadvantages for men?

Regular masturbation seems to have only advantages at first. In fact, you can read horror stories from time to time, for example, that the hand was applied too wildly and the penis was broken as a result.

To reassure you: such stories are the absolute exceptions and almost always the result of self-inflicted, insensitive masturbation.

In Germany, about 100 people per year, mainly men, are killed in auto-erotic suicide accidents. This is the technical term for fatal injuries that are unintentionally inflicted during masturbation.

One of the most common causes of death is air cutting during masturbation. In the expectation that lack of oxygen has a euphoric effect and in combination with an orgasm leads to a kind of intoxication of happiness, people intentionally cut off their air.

However, this cause of death shows: masturbation in itself is not harmful, but its combination with risky, sometimes life-threatening practices.

Currently, there is frequent talk in the media about a movement called “NoFap”. It goes back to an Internet forum of the same name from the USA, which wants to help people to get away from porn and masturbation. In the eyes of the movement, excessive masturbation is harmful.

One reason for this, among others, is that men would wear out their brain’s reward system by constantly jerking off to the huge supply of free online pornography. They would come whenever they wanted to satisfy their urges without having to make any effort. The psychological and physiological consequences of this “reward without performance” principle are, for example, loneliness or inability to have a relationship.

In order to “cure” the condition, the NoFap movement voluntarily abstains from hand-holding and porn consumption. Many followers speak after longer Porno- and Wichs-Abstinenz of the fact that it would go to them by the renouncement better: They felt more motivated in the everyday life, became more self-confident and their testosterone mirror would have risen.

However, Wolfgang Bühmann, scientific editor of the Professional Association of German Urologists, denies these effects: “There are no physical consequences and certainly no hormonal changes or anything else” from abstaining from solo sex.

In general, it is questionable whether the sometimes rampant acting out of sexual urges has to be quasi suppressed by abstinence. Wouldn’t the actually desirable thing be a pleasurable form of masturbation for the man, through which his relationship can benefit as already described above?

How often do men masturbate?

Some men masturbate every day, others do it only once a week, and still others never lay a hand on it at all: A representative survey by YouGov provides figures on the question “How often do men jerk off?” Among the German men surveyed, 32% said they jerk off at least several times a week. Of these, 7% even masturbate every day.

24% of respondents play with themselves several times a month and 14% satisfy themselves once a month or less. Only 12 % of respondents abstain from masturbation altogether.

In a survey by FHM, 9% of the 6,753 men surveyed said they touch themselves at least twice a day. 19 % do it once a day and 23 % of respondents still practice solo sex every other day.

According to a study by Joyclub, as many as 87.8% of men masturbate at least once a week and 13.1% of male respondents even get it on themselves several times a day.

The statistics show: For most men, jerking off is an integral part of their everyday life.

How often masturbating is healthy?

In general, there is no rule about how often a man should masturbate. His desire for masturbation depends, for example, on his physical and physical well-being, his age, his current life situation and other circumstances.

For masturbation to produce healthy effects as described above, one should masturbate about twice a week on average. However, you should never put pressure on yourself to jerk off just because it’s healthy. Fun and pleasure should always be part of it.

Are there also men who masturbate too often? Even if it does not necessarily come to health disadvantages: Masturbating is no longer “healthy” as soon as it becomes compulsive and degenerates into a kind of addiction.

Man jerking offA man overdoes it with masturbation when he spends his whole day planning to jerk off and misses appointments because he prefers to have fun with solo sex. In this case, he clearly spends too much time masturbating, which can have unhealthy consequences for his everyday life and psyche.

According to Frankfurt men’s doctor Dr. Haydar Karatepe, those who do it to themselves several times a day can quickly become lonely. In addition, the desire for new satisfaction that arises permanently during the day hits the mood, since one is practically never really satisfied and constantly longs for the next hand relaxation.

Besides addictive behavior, however, it is also a cause for concern if a man feels no desire to jerk off at all. In this case, the cause could be depression or a hormonal imbalance.

So: too little and too much masturbation can be unhealthy. Everything in between is harmless and even healthy.
